Fish curry (Mangalore style)

This is a fish curry recipe with basic ingredients . A very simple Mangalore style fish recipe that goes very well with wide variety of food (rice , pathiri, dosa, idli ,puttu, neer dosa ,wheat dosa etc) . That means , make this fish curry in the morning and relax for the rest of the day as it can be used for breakfast , lunch and dinner !

Preparation time : 10 minutes

Cooking time : 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  1. Fish (of your choice) – 1/2 kg
  2. coconut grated – 2 cups
  3. Red chilly (whole) – 10
  4. Coriander (whole) – 1.5 tablespoon
  5. Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  6. tamarind – a small lemon sized ball
  7. onion – 1/2
  8. Tomato – 1
  9. Green chilly – 1
  10. Ginger – 1 teaspoon (finely chopped)
  11. Curry leaves – a handful
  12. salt -to taste

Method :

Step 1 : Cut and clean the fish very well.

Step 2 : Grind together grated coconut , whole red chillies ,whole coriander, turmeric powder and tamarind with water to a fine paste.

Step 3 : Transfer this ground paste to a pan .Pour water to it to make the gravy of desired consistency. Add in chopped onions , tomato , green chilly and ginger pieces .

Step 4: Switch on the flame and bring it to boil. When it starts boiling, add fish, salt and curry leaves .  Cover and cook for 5 minutes or until fish is cooked completely.

Delicious Mangalore Style fish curry is ready. Serve it hot with rice, putty , pathiri ,dosa etc
