Layered pancake/ ithalappam / adukka orotti

It is a delectable dish which is very soft. It consists of layers separated by thin spread of ghee. Hence the name.

It tastes delicious with Fish curry (Mangalore style) , Prawn-Lady’s finger curry (Click on the curry for the recipe)

Preparation time : 2 hours (rice soaking time)

Cooking time : 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  1. Basmati rice – 2 cups (wash and soak it for 2 hours)
  2. jeera – a pinch
  3. ghee – as required
  4. salt, water

Method :

Step 1 : Grind basmati rice with jeera and salt. Make it a watery batter (consistency little more thick than neer dosa)

 Step 2 : Heat a steamer. Spread foil paper. Pour a spatula of the batter.

Step 3: Close the lid and cook for 5 minutes. Open the lid , spread 1 teaspoon of ghee.

Step 4 : Again pour another spatula of batter.

Step 5: Repeat steps 3 and 4 to make 5-6 layers. Cover and cook for about 15 minutes or until it is done. Cut it into desired shape and serve it hot with your favorite curry !
