Prawn-Lady’s finger curry

A very delicious gravy made using prawns/shrimps and lady’s finger. The combination of prawns and lady’s finger along with coconut milk and Indian spices make it uniquely flavored .

The curry goes very well with rotis , rice rotis (pathiri) , all kinds of dosa (Neer dosa , ragi dosa , wheat dosa, rice dosa ) , Layer Appam etc

Preparation time : 15 minutes

Cooking time : 25 minutes

Ingredients :

  1. Prawns – 1/4 kg
  2. Lady’s finger – 10 nos.
  3. coconut grated – 1.5cups
  4. Red chilly (whole) – 5
  5. Coriander (whole) – 3/4  tablespoon
  6. Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  7. tamarind – a small lemon sized ball
  8. onion – 1/2
  9. Tomato – 1
  10. Green chilly – 1
  11. Ginger – 1 teaspoon (finely chopped)
  12. Curry leaves – a handful
  13. salt -to taste
  14. oil

Method :

Step 1 :clean the prawns very well. Cut lady’s finger into 1 inch pieces.

Step 2 : Grind together grated coconut , whole red chillies ,whole coriander, turmeric powder and tamarind with water to a fine paste.

Step 3 : In a pot, saute onion in little oil for a minute. Add tomato , green chilly , ginger and saute for another minute. Add prawns. pour little water and salt. Close the lid and cook till prawns are almost done.

Step 4 :   Add lady’s finger .Transfer the ground coconut paste to the pot .Pour water to it to make the gravy of desired consistency.

Step 5: Let it boil . Meanwhile add curry leaves. Adjust the salt. Cover and sim cook for 5 minutes.
