Mutton kheema|keema

Kheema or keema is a delicious side dish prepared using mutton mince. Its a simple recipe where the mince is cooked with spices to give an aromatic kheema. It goes well with all Indian breads like roti, naan and also with pav.

Preparation time :  5 minutes

Cooking time : 30 minutes

Serves : 6

Ingredients : 

Minced mutton – 500 gms

Ghee – 2 tablespoons

Bay leaf – 1

Cinnamon stick – 1 small

Onion – 2 medium, finely chopped

Tomato – 1 medium, finely chopped

Ginger garlic paste – 1 teaspoon

Kashmiri red chilly powder – 2 teaspoon ( add more if you like spicier kheema)

Coriander powder – 1 teaspoon

Garam masala powder – 1/2 teaspoon

Turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon

Green chilly – 1 , finely chopped

Salt – to taste

Coriander leaves – few, chopped for garnish

Lime – 1/2

Method : 

Heat ghee in a cooker. Add bay leaf, cinnamon stick, onion. Saute till onion turn light golden. Then add ginger garlic paste. Saute for 2 minutes. Then add tomatoes , saute till they turn soft.

Then add  red chilly powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, green chilly, coriander powder, salt. Saute well for 2 minute. Then add minced meat and saute for a minute. Add 1/8 cup of water. mix well. Close the lid. Cook till its done. ( Time depends on the quality of meat ) . Pressure cook for 4  to 5 whistles. Let the pressure settle.

Open the lid.  Add lime juice. mix well. Cook on high heat till kheema is dry. If you want little gravy then switch off the flame at your desired consistency.

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves , onion and serve with roti or pav.

Note :

  1. Replace the mutton mince with chicken to prepare chicken kheema.
  2. You can also add chopped potatoes, while adding mince to make the gravy thicker.
  3. You can also add green peas , while adding mince to make kheema matar.
