Steamed rice dumplings

Here is the easy recipe for preparing steamed rice dumplings. Traditionally its prepared by grinding the soaked matta rice/ parboiled rice. But here I have used rice powder to make it quick n easy. The size also can varied as per your choice.

It’s an ideal option for breakfast, kids lunch box, as well as snack time too.

Preparation time : 10 minutes

Cooking time : 15 minutes

Ingredients :

Rice powder – 1 cup

Hot water – 2 cups

Salt- 1/4 th teaspoon

Method :

Take rice powder in a big bowl. Add hot water and salt to the powder and mix it using spoon. Close the bowl with a lid.

Leave it for around 5 minutes to cool down till its warm enough to knead and make balls.

Apply little ghee/ oil on your palm and knead the dough well like paththir and make small or big sized balls.

Steam these balls for 10 – 15 minutes till it’s well cooked.

This is the method to make plain rice dumplings.

You can also make spicy rice dumpling by following the next method.

In a pan , add 1 teaspoon oil, add mustard seeds, when they splutter, add 1 green chilly finely chopped, few curry leaves finely chopped, saute for a minute and add water. Add salt to this water.

When the water boils, switch off the flame. Then add rice powder and mix well. Close the lid for 10 minutes.

When its warm enough to handle, knead the dough and make the rice dumplings and steam.

Serve these steamed rice dumplings with coconut chutney or any curry.
