Aloo Cheela / Potato Pancake

Aloo Cheela are nothing but spicy pancakes made of potato. Grated potatoes are combined with gramflour and a few basic spices. you can call it an Indian version of hash brown . It is ideal for breakfast as well as evening snack!

Ingredients :

  1. Potato – 2 big
  2. onion – 1 small (finely chopped)
  3. green chilly – 1
  4. gram flour / besan – 3-4 tablespoon
  5. cornflour – 2 tablespoon
  6. pepper – 1/2 teaspoon
  7. salt
  8. cumin powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  9. chaat masala powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  10. oil
  11. coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon

Method :

Step 1 : Peel the skin and grate the potatoes . Soak the grated potatoes for 5 minutes (until starch is separated from the potato). Drain off the grated potato using a strainer. Use a cloth and squeeze out the water very well .

Step 2 : Transfer the grated potato to a large mixing bowl. Add cornflour, gram flour, pepper powder, cumin powder, chaat masala powder, chopped green chilly, chopped onion and salt. Mix well. finally add coriander leaves and give it a final mix. (if the batter looks too dry, add gram flour and a little water)

Step 3 : Heat a tawa. When its hot, spread a spatula of batter as thin as possible . Drizzle a spoon of oil through the sides of the pancake. Cover and cook it on medium – low flame . Flip and cook until the pancake turns golden and crispy.

Serve it hot with ketchup or chutney .
