Millet Dosa

Dosa is undoubtably the most popular South Indian Breakfast meal. Millet Dosa is a healthy alternative to normal dosa . Millet is a good source of fibre, protein and minerals. It helps to reduce cholesterol levels in the body. It helps in keeping a check on diabetes and blood pressure too.

Preparation time : soak (overnight) +fermentation (6-7 hours)

Ingredients :

  1. Millet – 1 cup
  2. white rice – 3/4 cup
  3. urad dal – 1/2 cup
  4. poha / beaten rice – 1/4 cup
  5. fenugreek seeds – 1 teaspoon
  6. salt.

Method :

Step 1 : Clean and soak millet , white rice-fenugreek seeds , urad dal  over night in separate containers. Soak poha for 10-15 minutes prior to grinding. (you may also soak it overnight)

Step 2 : grind them all together with salt and water to the consistency of normal dosa.

Step 3 : Leave it to ferment for 6-7 hours.

Step 4 : Heat a pan. Pour a ladle of batter and spread it as thin as required . Cover and cook for a couple of minutes.

Serve it hot with your favorite Veg curry , Non veg curry or Chutney

Note : The millet that i have used here is Proso Millet. however you may use barnyard or foxtail millet too.
